LayerOne in partnership with 2D-Tech for sustainable graphene-based innovations

Oslo, Norway – January 27 – 2023 – LayerOne enters a partnership with 2D-Tech, a Swedish competence centre for 2D material research. 2D-Tech and its partners have ambitious goals for sustainable technological innovation with 2D materials such as graphene and graphene oxide, which are LayerOne’s core product.

Joining 2D-Tech gives us a great opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative technological solutions together with industrial companies and other partners in the 2D-Tech network. Graphene has innumerable application areas, and it’s important for us to test our products in different materials and optimize them for specific applications”, says Filippo Giordanino, Chief Technical Officer in LayerOne.

LayerOne will supply Graphene Oxide (GO) and rGO (reduced Graphene Oxide) materials to 2D-Tech for testing in the hub’s various research programmes spanning from multi-functional composites to sustainable energy, electronics, and emerging materials. LayerOne will also contribute with technical expertise and know-how related to the incorporation and processing of GO or rGO materials in different end products.

It’s a pleasure for us to welcome LayerOne as a partner of 2D-Tech. To achieve our ambitions, we need to have the right players on board, and LayerOne is instrumental with its capacity to deliver high quality graphene materials that we can use in our research and development programmes.”, says Samuel Lara-Avila, Director of 2D-Tech.

2D-Tech, hosted at Chalmers University of Technology, aims to match research expertise to technological needs of the Swedish industry, focusing on automotive, composites, energy, aerospace, electronics, and packaging. It is funded by the public agency Vinnova and 19 industrial partners. Vinnova is the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems, whose task is to promote sustainable growth through the development of Swedish innovation systems.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials are those consisting of single- or few-layer atoms. Such materials show a wide range of remarkable optical, electronic, mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties. They have the potential to bring immense positive impact on technology and the carbon footprint of industries.

About LayerOne

LayerOne is a leading producer of graphene-based materials for industrial applications. The company uses its proprietary and scalable technology to deliver high quality graphene and graphene oxide that have the potential to improve the performance of a wide range of materials. LayerOne materials are designed and manufactured in Norway. Thanks to the market leading quality, LayerOne is the preferred development and supply partner of many high-tech companies.

LayerOne, previously Abalonyx, was founded in Oslo, Norway in 2005. The company was purchased by the Norwegian industrial investment company, Aker, in 2021. Abalonyx was then renamed to LayerOne. LayerOne is supported with resources from Clara Venture Labs’ Project and Venture Support. Clara Venture Labs builds and supports ventures ensuring rapid growth and value creation on their way to become successful industrial companies.
