Composites, polymers & plastics

Graphene materials can enhance the strength of composites while introducing properties like thermal conductivity and heat resistance, water and gas barrier properties and even electric conductivity.

Want stronger, lighter, or more conductive materials? We develop graphene materials that enhance the performance of composites, polymers, and plastics—helping you create advanced products with greater strength, durability, and functionality.

Additives with multiple benefits

Added strength

Graphene oxide and reduced Graphene oxide are both exceptionally strong materials and durable, even stronger than steel while still being very light and flexible material. When added to composites, this property will follow.

Thermal conductivity and flame retardant properties

Due to its high surface area and high thermal conductivity, graphene materials are also excellent thermal conductors. When added to a composite, it can give the composite material flame retardant properties. Furthermore, when added to a composite or polymer, it will have frame-retardant properties.

If the enhanced composite/polymer caches fire, the graphene sheets will be able to suppress the fire making the composite auto-extinguishing.

Water/gas barrier

GO and rGO alike both have the ability to act as a barrier against certain gasses. This introduces an innovative approach to mitigate their influence on the composite, as well as improve their conditions in applications within gas storage.

Reduced Graphene Oxide, with its unique arrangement of single-layered carbon-atoms, creates a hydrophobic layer that effectively repels water. This property can be leveraged to develop, membranes, and other products that effectively prevent water penetration.

Electric conductivity

Like pristine graphene, reduced Graphene Oxide is an excellent conductor of electricity. Adding this to composite/polymers can transform them into smart composites/polymers with added functions such as internal sensors for breaking, EMI shielding and as electrical components.

Unlike traditional fillers added such as carbon black, which require high loading levels that compromise mechanical properties, graphene materials achieve conductivity with lower filler concentrations, preserving flexibility and strength
